Is Jain food available in Sri Lanka?
Yes. Jain food is available on request at most hotels and restaurants in Sri Lanka. The important words are on request: the kitchen has to know in advance. That is our job. Before your trip we contact every hotel and every restaurant on your route and make sure they will serve Jain food for you, every time.
How we take care of Jain guests
- Your rules, passed on: tell us how strictly you follow Jain food, for example no onion, garlic or root vegetables, and whether you eat before sunset. We pass this to each hotel and restaurant before you arrive.
- Checked at every stop: your driver-guide knows your food needs and confirms them with the restaurant, so you do not have to explain each time.
- Planned around meals: we plan the drives and stops so you can eat at the right places and the right times.
- Groups too: one family or a full group, every member gets the right meals.
We have done it before
In July 2026 we ran a Ramayana tour with Jain vegetarian half board at every hotel on the route. Pure vegetarian and Jain meals are a normal part of our Ramayana and pilgrimage tours for guests from India.
A sample 8-day Jain tour
- Day 1: Airport pickup and drive to Sigiriya.
- Day 2: Sigiriya and Dambulla.
- Day 3: Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth.
- Day 4: Nuwara Eliya: Seetha Amman Temple and tea country.
- Day 5: Train to Ella, Ravana Falls.
- Day 6 to 7: Down to the coast at Bentota.
- Day 8: Drive to the airport.
This follows our Ramayana trail. We can also build a Jain tour around the classic sights, a honeymoon or a family holiday. Every route works with Jain meals.
What it costs
A recent 8-day Ramayana tour with 4★ hotels and Jain vegetarian half board was about $560 per person. The price depends on the number of days, hotel level and group size. See more real prices.
